Valentine's Notes

A musician in the making

It's been a while--I apologize. You would think that since we've had about 6 snow days since the last post that I would've gotten around to posting, but alas, that is not the case. Despite having lots of 'time-off' there were still plays to somehow get through with very limited rehearsal time, meetings to attend, houses to clean, and for Ben, coursework to do and a common assessment prototype to write. Sounds like he and his brother are conspiring to try to get something put together for teachers to assist them in meeting NCLB requirements. It's a hot market right now, so we'll see if it pans out...

As for Violet, which we all know is the real reason you're all reading this post, she's been entertaining us quite a bit the last few weeks. Here words are starting to fly out of her mouth, which means mommy and daddy need to watch their language at times! She's mastered more, up, down, pop, boo, pooh (as in Winnie-the) George (Curious--one of her favorite series right now) and loves going around the house being phonetic--making the sounds for p, t, k(c), and m. She hasn't quite connected them to the print yet, but she is only 17 months old. Kindergarten is a short(long) way off.

She also likes to talk on the telephone (like any true girl)--but with no one on the other end. It's the craziest thing--she jabbers away to herself, but if we put her up to talk to grandmas or grandpas or aunties, she doesn't say a word.

She seems to be growing more and more by the day, although she still is just a tiny little person. She's
around 24 pounds and we're saving to measure her till next month's 'milestone' birthday. But by casual walking by the growth chart, she'll probably be at least 1.5" taller than she was at 15 months.

We did get to take her out in the snow last week before it got arcticly cold, and she just loves the outdoors. Makes us really long for the spring/summer months when we can all spend hours outside and we can begin to appreciate the size of our yard in town, and the short walk to the park. Yes, the snow is really as deep as she is tall, making it tremendously difficult for her to walk--but she's a trooper!

That's about all from here. I'll close with a favorite picture, just because I know that's really all you want to see!

Dadda and Violet and the ape reading.
